The Ex Hex: Never Mix Witchcraft and Vodka

About The Ex Hex

Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.

That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.

Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.

My Review

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling is a fun and charming romance with a touch of magic and humor. The story follows Vivienne Jones, a witch who cursed her ex-boyfriend Rhys Penhallow nine years ago after he broke her heart. Now, Rhys is back in town and things start to go wrong for him and the whole town of Graves Glen, Georgia. Vivienne realizes that her curse may have been more powerful than she intended and that she still has feelings for Rhys. Together, they have to find a way to break the curse and save the town from a series of disasters.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a light and easy read that made me laugh and swoon. The characters were likable and had great chemistry. Vivienne was a relatable heroine who struggled with her self-esteem and her career as a witch. Rhys was a sweet and sexy hero who had a lot of regrets and guilt about his past. I loved their banter and their history. The secondary characters were also entertaining, especially Vivienne's best friend Gwyn and Rhys's cousin Wells.

The plot was fast-paced and engaging. There were a lot of hilarious and quirky situations that Vivienne and Rhys had to deal with, such as murderous wind-up toys, a talking cat, and a ghostly ancestor. The magic system was simple but fun, with distinct types of witches and spells. The setting was cozy and atmospheric, with a small-town vibe and a Halloween theme.

The Ex Hex was a perfect read for the fall season. It was a delightful mix of romance, comedy, and fantasy. I would recommend it to fans of paranormal romances, witchy stories, and second-chance love. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, The Kiss Curse.
